Changing careers means you’ll need a whole new resume to match your new job search in your new field. The important goal to keep in mind is that your resume needs to show how your skills, particularly your soft skills, are transferable.
Identify Your Transferable Skills

Add a Skill Summary
Your skill summary goes at the top of your resume to highlight what type of job you’re seeking. The main purpose is to sell the reader on why you’re best for job. Use this space to make it clear how your former positions have given you the skills you need in the new field and for this job in particular.
Add in Experience/Skills
Instead of immediately listing every job you’ve had underneath your objective, instead list your skills and briefly put your experience. We’re telling the story of how you became the obvious choice for this position. Make it easy for the hiring manager to see how your soft skills at previous positions will help with this one.
Include titles, company, town, state, and dates. Nothing else is needed if your experience section clearly shows how your last position can then help this open one. Don’t include any extra information if it’s not relevant to your new career choice.
Any experience volunteering in your new industry is an excellent way to show you are both ambitious and gaining experience. This will also show that you know what the job involves ahead of time, and that you’re ready to succeed. Now get out there and show them why you’re the best fit for the job!
